Labrador Tea

Updated: Jun 10

Labrador Tea (Rhododendron groenlandicum) is one of the most treasured wild herbs we forage here in Northern Saskatchewan. This fuzzy-leaved evergreen thrives in bogs and muskeg, offering a deep, earthy, slightly piney aroma that, to me, is unmatched—of all the wild herbs we gather, I personally think it has the best scent.

Key Benefits:

  • Respiratory Relief: Eases coughs, congestion, and sore throats.

  • Anti-Inflammatory: Soothes joint pain and supports recovery.

  • Digestive Aid: Stimulates bile flow and eases bloating when used moderately.

  • Calming Herb: Gently sedative, helps with stress and sleep.

Use with Care:

  • Best enjoyed in small amounts (1 tsp dried leaves per cup).

  • Avoid during pregnancy or in large doses due to its potency.

  • Always dry leaves before use to reduce irritation.

We forage Labrador Tea with care on our Northern Saskatchewan land, using it in seasonal teas and healing salves. It’s a beautiful example of the powerful medicine growing right under our feet.
