The Nettle Patch

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

It's that time of year again... we're out foraging, gathering, picking, tasting. My husband Geoff has become more obsessive over foraging in the wild than me! This happens to be a great help because I am always so busy creating, testing, making, infusing and processing the plants for my skincare products! Weeks ago we found an excellent Nettle patch, so Geoff and I got down on our hands and knees and went crazy picking - we were so excited! Did you know that Nettle contains a ridiculous amount of vitamins and minerals?? In fact - they are one of the world's most nutrient-dense plants. Once the leaves are dry, the stinging hairs are gone and they are super easy to toss into your smoothie as a more nutritious alternative to spinach. We've also found Spruce Tips (which are an extremely tasty addition to a salad and are loaded with Vitamin C). I've been infusing lots of plants and berries lately (some from this year - like the nettle and poplar buds) and some from last year (fireweed and juniper berries), and some purchased items (lavender buds and vanilla bean). These all infuse for weeks and weeks in jars. The oil soaks up all of the therapeutic benefits from the plant and then I incorporate these into my skincare items and salves. So fun and we can't wait to go out and get more!
